Food:

I will have to give the food a big thumbs up. They have a good
selection prepared excellently. Their honey buttered croissants
(free with every meal) were nothing less than spectacular. I
wish the same could be said for their beers. |
Beer: Hops serves four beers. This "brewpub" is a large
chain and you can tell. The beers are not so much true brewpub fare
as a standardized formula and it tells. They are all crystal clear
and over chilled.

If nothing else, Clearwater Light is
certainly named right. I had a glass of ice water with it and
could hardly taste or see the difference. The ladies with me,
none of which were beer drinkers, thought this was the best of the
lot. Consider the source. If you are thirsty and do not
want to taste beer, this would be your choice. For me it gets one
star.

Lightning Bold was a classic American
lager. To call it "bold" may be a bit of a stretch, but if you
are looking for that classic Budweiser taste in a brewpub than this
would be your choice. Hey, save a buck and order a
Budweiser. It gets one star

Thoroughbred Red claimed to be a "full
bodied amber ale" what it turned out to be was a shallow
bodied pale ale. Like the other beers at Hops, it is a very
commercial beer for those who don't really know craft beer but want
to be cool holding one. One star!

Okay, so they finally brewed one with
taste. If you find yourself going to Hops order the Alligator
Ale. I don't know if it is really good, or the other
beers were so bad they made this one taste good. I would
compare it to Michelob Amber Bock in taste and body. Although
Amber Bock is a Lager and this is an ale, it still was crisp and dry
like a lager and served too cool for an ale. Three stars.
